Hawks Soccer Plays Hard, Drops 2 of 3
Soccer is a game of two halves. Unfortunately for Riverton Soccer, the 1st half seems to be the only one in which they are able to defend well. After playing three games in which the Hawks have held their opponents scoreless in the opening half of each one, the Hawks are still only 0-2-1 on the season.
The problem seems to be that RHS has been out scored 1-5 in the second halves of those games. With a 0-0 half time score against Williamsville, the Hawks gave up two goals on head balls to lose to the rival Bullets 0-2. On Thursday the Hawks traveled to Athens for an emotional contest with the Warriors. Although the match was again knotted after the first 40 minutes, the Hawks were able to net a goal off the foot of Sr. Andrew Phillips, assisted by Fr. Spencer Pulliam to level the game at 1-1.
Saturday saw the boys heading north to face Roanoke-Benson/Eureka. Again 40 minutes, again 0-0. Similarly to the Williamsville game, Riverton lost track of their opponent on a cross which resulted in RBE goal. They added another with 12 minutes remaining to put the contest away at 0-2.
The Hawks face Lanphier on Labor Day, then travel to Springfield Lutheran Thursday before finishing the week at home on Saturday against Peoria Woodruff. All home contests are at the Riverton Baptist Church on Riverton Rd. and are free to the public. Concessions are available. See you there!
