After the school board approved the balanced calendar for the 2001/2002 school year, each building established a planning committee that consisted of teachers and administrators. Each committee followed the same process for planning:
Planning Process
- Step1: Committee developed a list of questions regarding any aspect of implementing the YRE calendar and supporting programs. The list was generated from staff, students, and a parent advisory group in each building.
- Step 2: Each question was put into a category or in multiple categories. The categories that were used were: P - parent input, T - teacher input, A - administrative decision, OR - outside research, POL - policy issue.
- Step 3: Generate feedback from various groups regarding answering each question.
- Step 4: The committee reviewed all of the feedback from the various groups and made a recommendation on each question.
- Step 5: The recommendations were presented to all staff and to parents at open meetings. The committee received feedback.
- Step 6: Committee reviewed the feedback and made necessary revisions.
- Step 7: Committee made recommendations to the board of education for approval.
