The followings sections provide general information about the intersession programs in Riverton
Intersession Goals
The Riverton CUSD #14 School Board and administration established goals for the intersession, academy week courses. To view those goals, click on the link below.
Academy Week Classes
Riverton CUSD #14 offers academy week courses during the first week of each of the intersession breaks throughout the year. Each building operates from around 8:00 am – 11:45 am and provides both remedial and enrichment courses for students for five days. The elementary and middle schools focus on remediating reading and math. The high school provides remediation in reading, math and science. Riverton teachers are hired to teach the remedial courses and class size is usually a ratio of 10 students for every teacher.
As stated, the district also offers enrichment courses at each level. The schedules of courses vary each quarter but they offer a wide range of experience. Previous courses have included: CSI Riverton, Helping Hawks, Octoberfest, Cosmetology, Fishing, etc. The courses offer a balance of extensions of the regular course curriculum to student interest courses. The academy weeks are also a great time for academic and social trips. Over the years, students have attended the Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama; engaged in a space shuttle mission at the Challenger Learning Center; and have attended numerous museums across several states.
Intersession Coordinator
Riverton CUSD #14 employs an intersession coordinator in each school building to oversee the organization and implementation of the remedial and enrichment academy week programs. Each intersession coordinator receives the following stipend based on years of experience in the position. The percentage figures represent the percent of the base salary on the appropriate teacher salary schedule:
0-2 Years Experience - 8%
3-5 Years Experience – 9%
6-8 Years Experience – 10%
9+ Years Experience – 11%
For school districts considering implementing YRE and intersession classes, the intersession coordinator was probably the most important factor for having a successful first year of implementation. Click on the link below to access the intersession coordinator job description.
