Riverton School District Tax Rate

2007

April 07, 2008

A recent report from the Sangamon County Clerk revealed that the Riverton CUSD #14 will again see the tax rate for the district decline this year.  This rate reduction marks the eleventh time in thirteen years that there has been a decrease in the tax rate. The tax rate is applied to determine the portion of each person’s tax bill that goes to the school district. Last year, the overall tax rate went from $4.0379 per $100 of equalized assessed value down to $3.9675. The rate has dropped over $.75 since its high in 1995 ($4.7538).  This year marks the first time in over 20 years that the tax rate has declined to under $4.000.  As reported in the Riverton Register, the Riverton School District has one of the lowest tax rates in Sangamon County.  If a homeowners property does not get re-assessed, that will mean that the portion of the tax bill that goes to the school district will decline as well.
