Respect

RESPECT IS……….

Something you can earn by being honest and courteous to others.

People listen to what you have to say and valuing your feelings and opinions.

Having the confidence in yourself to be your very best.

Being treated in a way that lets you know that what you do or say is important in the world.

Treating someone with dignity and telling the person that she is worth something.

When people like you and appreciate you for who you are, not what you look like.

When someone treats you like an equal human being period.

The Seven Respect Basics:

Having self-respect—you are a human being and your thoughts matter!!  Take some time and think about what’s important and what you value.  Taking some time for yourself makes you more confident in sticking up for yourself.

Listening to your gut- listen to the voice in your body that tells you how you really feel deep down.  Have you ever been in a situation that your friends wanted you to do something that you didn’t want to do?  The feeling you felt when that happened was your gut feeling.

Setting Boundaries-that invisible line that you don’t want others to cross.  Your personal boundaries are defined by your personal limits, values and life experiences.  Good  boundaries helps develop good relationships.

Speaking up- You deserve to be heard.  Speaking up draws more attention to your mind and not your body, and it says to people.  Hey, I have got something to say!

Building Strong Relationships- Tell your family and friends what you need.  Learning how to communicate respectfully is the key step in any relationship.

Fighting for Equality- The amount of respect that you receive is affected by many factors.  The core of respect is a belief that no matter your background or way of life you deserve equal treatment.

Getting Help- Respecting yourself is about learning how to take care of yourself and asking for help when needed.  It may be helpful to seek out a friend, family member, religious leader, school counselor or social worker, or professional therapist.
