Description
Throughout the course of the year, students will be required to complete a course of study including basic math facts, problem solving skills, extended response, reasoning, organization, geometry, etc.
Objective
Seventh graders will gain a better understanding of the basic components of Mathematics as well as a more advanced understanding of complex mathematical operations as mandated by the Illinois State Learning Standards. Students will be given the knowledge to succeed in the completion of the above-mentioned tasks as well as the assistance they will need in order to attain that success. Students will be held completely accountable and responsible for the completion of their assignments.
Assignments & Grading Criteria
Weeklys are mathematical practice questions completed on a daily basis and are a great opportunity for students to practice the skills they are acquiring everyday and gives them a chance to exercise the concepts that the y learn on the previous weeks and days while in class. There will be a 5 point grade taken on Weeklys every week during the quarter (45 points total).
Assignments: These will be graded according to the following criteria. All assignments should be completed entirely at the beginning of the class in which they are assigned. Students will be graded randomly for most assignments based on 5 randomly checked problems on their paper, or randomly checked complete assignments. There will be homework/independent practice on most days.
Tests/Quizzes will be given at the half and final marks of all units to assess student understanding of the topics that have been covered. Students will be instructed according to the needs displayed by these assessments.
Daily Grades and Other assignments: Other smaller assignments will be presented to students especially when working with specific skills or tests/quizzes. These assignments will be presented to students with a grade explanation at the time of their presentation. Students will often times be given grades based on participation and effort when working in class on group work and independent practice exercises.
