Riverton High School recently received a $1,000 memorial donation from the friends of former RHS teacher Donna Etherton. Mrs. Etherton was a special education teacher at the high school from 1975-1981. She passed away this summer after a year-long battle with cancer. Former RHS teacher and friend, Gwen Pollock who organized the memorial fund remembered Mrs. Etherton with the following statement: "Donna made a huge impact on the students she taught, in addition to the faculty and community. She brought her special professionalism, personal dedication, and nurturing personality to the classroom each day. She had such a presence . . . she was so full of life, kindness and humor." At the request of family and friends, the gift will directly benefit the RHS special education department. Plans are to create a mobile lab with interactive Smartboard technology that will be used in all special education classrooms. Mr. Lamkey, the high school principal stated "This is a very generous gift that could not have come at a better time. The mobile technology lab is something we could not have afforded this year due to budget constraints. Our special education staff is very grateful and excited about the addition of the equipment. It is a excellent way to remember an exceptional individual." Mrs. Etherton is survived by her husband , Robert of rural Dawson, and two children, Ashley and Austen.
