Wow! We are so glad to have had some beautiful weather this week! The kids have really enjoyed being outside and having time on the playground. Our fundraiser is appearing to be a success which will allow additional improvements to our playground. Thank you all for your support and fundraising purchases. In addition, thank you to those who decided to send a donation. We really appreciate your generosity!
Last week our first grade teachers held their parent night! We had an outstanding turnout. We really appreciate the commitment from all of our parents and hope that we are able to provide valuable information for the success of our students. Also, in the corner of first grade news…. the students were able to take a field trip to the bowling alley as a part of their science studies! A good time was had by all!
This week, we will be moving from our comprehension strategy of “predicting” into “summarizing”. We will kick-off our summarizing focus on Tuesday, the 31st. Please have your students wear light blue. As our students build their comprehension skills and abilities, they will be utilizing what they have learned about predicting to build effective and accurate summaries. Gretchen Courtney, the developer of our comprehension program will be in the district on Monday, the 30th to do demonstration lessons and to debrief with our teachers. It is a great opportunity for our teachers to continue to grow professionally in their implementation of comprehension instruction.
