MCj04345830000[1]Reading

Non-fiction text is text about real things/real life/ not make-believe. Currently, we are focusing our reading instruction-comprehension strategy on non-fiction summarizing. Students will learn to identify how the first and last sentence in a paragraph can tell us important information. Students will also be listening for repeated words as a strategy to help tell us what might be important in that particular text.

We will continue to practice the letters of the alphabet by recognizing the letters, identifying the sounds, identifying pictures that start with that letter sound, and correct formation of the letters.  Our letter and sound for the upcoming week will be letter Aa.  Our new word wall word is the.  Students practice letters through a variety of activities every day. Remember to practice the alphabet(letters & sounds),word wall words, and math skills at home each night for about 15 minutes. Please be sure to read to your child nightly.

Math

During math time, we will continue to practice numbers 0-19. It is very important work on identifying the numbers. Writing numbers 0-19 is a great thing to practice at home. We count in many different ways such as counting up to 50, counting backwards from 12-0, and other ways. We explored measurement by using the length and weight of a pumpkin.

Our goal for writing is to practice the correct formation for the uppercase and lowercase letters Aa.

Students have been practicing writing their first names with only the first letter being upper case and all the other letters being lower case. Name writing is an important skill to master, be sure to practice this at home. We are beginning to write first and last names. This is a huge step for your child!

Students will continue to write and illustrate class color books focusing on each new color. Encourage your child to practice reading and writing color words (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, and purple).
