LATE START INFORMATION

FROM TIME TO TIME, IT IS NECESSARY FOR SCHOOL TO BE CANCELLED DURING THE WINTER FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER.  THE DISTRICT HAS INSTALLED A LATE START/INCLEMENT WEATHER FORMAT WHERE SCHOOL WILL START ONE HOUR LATER THAN NORMAL. WE WILL ONLY USE THIS FORMAT IF THE WEATHER DOES NOT REQUIRE US TO CANCEL SCHOOL. HOWEVER, SAFETY WILL ALWAYS BE OUR FIRST PRIORITY WHEN MAKING THE DECISION ABOUT THE SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS.

If weather conditions call for a late start, we will use the same modes of communication we use when cancelling school – phone call, social media, website and local television/radio stations.

The phone message will begin with “This is Jo with Riverton School District, today is a late start day.  All schools will start one hour later…”

Details for the late start schedule are listed below.

  • RHS Opens doors at 8:25 a.m. with school starting at 8:50 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. respectively

  • RMS Opens doors at 8:30 a.m. with school starting at 8:50 a.m.

  • RES Opens doors at 9:05 a.m. with school starting at 9:30 a.m.

Buses will run one hour later in the morning but leave school in the afternoon at the regular dismissal time. (For example, if your child usually catches the bus at 7:37 a.m., during a late start schedule the child should be at the bus stop one hour later - 8:37 a.m.)

Morning pre-k classes will start an hour late, along with all schools but will dismiss at normal time.  Afternoon Pre-K classes will start at the normal time and will not be affected by a late morning start.

On late start days, all before school meetings, programs, sports practices, music lessons and activities will be cancelled. After school activities will likely be held on Late Start days given improving weather or road conditions throughout the day.
