Riverton CUSD #14 Food Service

We are pleased to inform you that Riverton CUSD #14 will continue the option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) FAQs

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION (CEP)?

The Community Eligibility Provision allows high-poverty schools to provide one breakfast and one lunch free to all students, ensuring that they are well-nourished and able to learn throughout the school day.  Families do not need to provide a school lunch application in order to qualify.  All Riverton Schools will participate in the CEP program, continuing in the 2023-2024 school year.

DO I STILL NEED TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION?

While filling out an application for meal benefits is not necessary, we encourage all families to fill out an
Application for Waiver of School Fees.  Families who receive a notification from the school district that they are
directly certified do not need to fill out the fee waiver application because their student fees will be waived
automatically.

DOES MY CHILD STILL NEED A PIN NUMBER AT MEAL TIMES?

Entering PIN numbers provides "checks and balances" for several operational features.  So, while it is not necessary for meal counting, children are still required to enter their PIN numbers.

WHAT COUNTS AS A FULL MEAL?

Federal regulations require that a student meal consists of the following components: protein, grains,
vegetables, fruits and dairy. To receive a free meal, the student must accept one from each of those categories.
Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions to this, so encourage your child to take all of the parts that make up
a full school meal.

WHAT IF MY CHILD WANTS A SECOND ENTREE OR FULL MEAL?

Student lunch accounts will be charged for any additional entrée, additional full meal purchase, or any à la carte
item. Only full breakfasts and lunches are free under the CEP program. If a student does not take a full meal,
we do not receive any state or federal reimbursements for any portion of the meal and therefore, we still need
to collect money to cover the cost of à la carte items (such as second entrees, milk, etc.).

IS MILK FREE AT CEP SITES TOO?

Student lunch accounts will continue to be charged for separate milk purchases. Only full meals (breakfast or
lunch) will be free.

CAN STUDENTS CHARGE FOR ADDITIONAL ITEMS?

Because all students can receive a free meal each day if he or she chooses, negative Skyward balances are not
allowed.

HOW DO I REQUEST A REFUND OF MY CHILD'S MEAL ACCOUNT?

Meal money can be refunded to the primary parent/guardian or transferred to another student in the family
after all outstanding fees for the student have been paid. Complete the Meal Money Transfer / Refund Request
Form
and return it to the district office.

MY CHILD BRINGS A LUNCH FROM HOME.  DO STUDENTS HAVE TO EAT LUNCH AT SCHOOL?

No, students still have the option of eating breakfast at home and packing a lunch to eat. The school district is
working closely with Aramark to improve the variety and quality of food choices at each school, so we
encourage all students to try the improved offerings this year.
